A lot has been written and still is about goalkeeper coaching and how we actually train goalkeepers.
Goalkeeper sweeper, Goalplayer, ect ect all terms that you hear more and more these days, the old-fashioned goalkeeper is no more, is this justified in modern football ?? I think so.
But actually, we all want the same thing: a goalkeeper who can make great saves and also play great football. A powerhouse with crosses and someone who can play the spaces behind the defenders.
Nothing new, no one wants a line of goalkeeper who can't play football, however, his priority is always to keep the opponent from scoring.
But how do you coach a goalkeeper, is there one vision or are there several, is there one road that leads to Rome or are there several? For me, there are several, and one vision is not sacred.
For me it all starts with learning basic techniques at a young age and learning to use both arms and both legs.
Goalkeeper training at a young age does not have to be every day, twice a week is in my opinion enough to master the basics.
Training in the group is also very good for the goalkeepers, think of positional play, passing and kicking and then of course "the game".
Nowadays a goalkeeper has to be able to play football and play in the spaces,, they do not learn this in an individual training, but they do learn this in a group training.
Coach a goalkeeper diversely and he/she will benefit from that as they get older
Are you a goalkeeper coach, go for quality and not quantity because that doesn't benefit anyone.
Be aware of the age at which you are training, children are not adults and certainly not professional goalkeepers.
Below you find a education plan per age group, it is only my idea
